Enterprise eCommerce

Magento 2 — Enterprise eCommerce at Scale

Magento 2, commercially branded as Adobe Commerce since Adobe's 2018 acquisition, is the platform of choice for large-scale B2C and B2B eCommerce. Available as Magento Open Source (free) and Adobe Commerce (paid enterprise tier), it handles millions of SKUs, complex multi-store operations and deep integrations with enterprise business systems — at a scale few other platforms can match.

Enterprise Grade Adobe Commerce Open Source (OSL) PHP 8.1+ GraphQL & REST API Multi-Store
  • Enterprise B2C stores with large product catalogues and high traffic
  • Multi-brand groups running multiple storefronts from a single installation
  • B2B operations requiring Adobe Commerce's purchasing workflows
  • Businesses with complex ERP, PIM and OMS integration requirements
Why Magento 2

The platform that scales to enterprise commerce demands

Why organisations with complex operations choose Magento 2 for mission-critical stores.

Multi-Store Architecture

A single Magento 2 installation supports multiple websites, stores and store views — each with its own domain, catalogue, currency, language and design. Manage a portfolio of brands or regional sites from one admin panel, sharing or isolating product data as needed.

Adobe Commerce B2B Suite

Adobe Commerce (paid) includes a comprehensive B2B feature set: company accounts with multiple buyers, custom catalogues per company, negotiated price lists, purchase orders, payment terms (net-30/60/90), order approval workflows and quick order by SKU. Not available in Magento Open Source.

Enterprise Performance

Magento 2 is built to handle millions of SKUs and high transaction volumes with Varnish (full-page cache), Redis (session, cache, page cache), Elasticsearch/OpenSearch (search and filtering), MySQL with read replicas and CDN integration. Properly configured, it supports hundreds of thousands of daily orders.

GraphQL & REST API

Magento 2 has a comprehensive REST API and a growing GraphQL layer used for headless and PWA storefronts. The PWA Studio (official) and community solutions like Vue Storefront provide reference headless implementations. We build custom React/Next.js storefronts against the GraphQL API.

Flexible Extension Architecture

Magento 2's module system allows overriding any part of the platform via plugins (interceptors), preferences and events. The official Marketplace and thousands of community extensions cover most standard requirements. Custom module development is well-documented and follows strict conventions.

Page Builder (Adobe Commerce)

Adobe Commerce includes Page Builder — a drag-and-drop content editor for CMS pages, product descriptions and category pages. Combined with the staging and preview system, marketing teams can schedule content changes weeks in advance and preview them before publishing.

FAQ

Magento Open Source (OSL 3.0) is the free community version. It includes the full catalogue, checkout, payment and shipping framework but lacks B2B features, Page Builder, customer segmentation, AI-powered recommendations and Adobe's support. Adobe Commerce is the paid enterprise version (cloud or on-premise) that adds all of the above plus Adobe's ecosystem integrations (Target, Analytics, Experience Manager). For most SMB and mid-market projects, Magento Open Source with extensions covers the requirements. Adobe Commerce is justified when you need its B2B suite or Adobe ecosystem integration.

Yes. Adobe maintains Magento 2 with regular security patches and quarterly feature releases for Adobe Commerce. Magento 1 reached end-of-life in June 2020 and must be migrated. Magento Open Source receives security patches but feature development is concentrated on Adobe Commerce. The platform has a large installed base and Adobe has committed to its long-term roadmap.

Magento 2 requires PHP 8.1+ (8.3 for newer versions), MySQL 8 or MariaDB 10.6+, Elasticsearch or OpenSearch 7.x/8.x, Redis and Composer. A production store needs at minimum a VPS with 4 CPU cores and 8GB RAM; high-volume stores use multi-server setups with load-balanced PHP-FPM, a dedicated database server and a CDN. Infrastructure requirements are higher than Shopware or Sylius.

Both handle large catalogues well. Magento 2 has more mature multi-store and B2B capabilities and a larger global ecosystem. Shopware 6 has a better editing and CMS experience and is easier to work with for DACH merchants. For catalogues above 500,000 SKUs or businesses needing Adobe Commerce's B2B suite, Magento 2 is often the better fit. For content-driven stores in the DACH region, Shopware 6 is frequently the right choice.

Yes. Magento 1 and 2 have entirely different architectures; there is no automatic upgrade path — migration is a full re-implementation. We handle data migration (products, categories, customers, orders, CMS), custom module rewriting for Magento 2, theme rebuilding, payment/shipping integration and SEO continuity. Magento 1 stores still running should migrate urgently, as the platform has been out of security support since June 2020.
